I suppose like many residents of Springfield, my family grew to feel a connection to this very special woman. Though nothing more that polite hellos, observations about the weather, and heart-felt thanks for the wonderful meals ever passed between Ruth and my family, she became a fixture of the family time we tried to carve out from our busy lives. Seated behind the cash register, Ruth had created an atmosphere in which my family could slow down, talk, and play a little catch-up with one another. Time marches on, but Aunt Martha's remained the same. It was always a comfort to see Ruth watching over the scene as we sipped coffee and enjoyed those wonderful pancakes created from that “super secret” recipe.Upon our next visit, Ruth's absence will be felt, but we are confident that the legacy she built will endure.
We would like to express our deepest condolences to Ruth's family and the staff of Aunt Martha's Pancake House. We share in the sense of loss of the extraordinary lady.
