Nancy Farris Thee
Historic Clothing Specialist
Nancy Farris-Thee has translated a life-long passion for sewing and fashion into becoming one of the area’s most respected authorities on historic clothing. Having desired to become a designer, Thee studied contemporary fashion early in her career and ran a couture wedding apparel service for several years. However, it was when she inherited a number of Peterson’s and Godey’s of the American Civil War Era that Farris-Thee became dedicated to preserving the heritage surrounding the manufacture of clothing.
Farris-Thee would go on to work several years for the State of Missouri as an historic interpreter and was recognized for her excellence by the Association of Missouri Interpreters in 2006. Farris-Thee has created period clothing closets for various historic sites and worked as a consultant for others, as well as for museums. She began designing historic clothing for the McCall, Butterick Pattern Company several years ago and continues to enjoy her work very much.
Farris-Thee will be on-hand throughout the day of the 2012 Southwest Missouri Homeschool History Fair to demonstrate some of the amazing techniques she uses in putting together her beautiful pieces.
